Oscar Mpetha High School is situated right in the centre of the very old township of Nyanga East. It was known as  Maboee ( Mabuwa)  Secondary School ,the name of an old community member.  It became Sizamile Secondary School because the community felt that they have made a great effort in having the first high school in Nyanga East. The first teachers say it started in 1975 at Walter Teka Primary School and then moved to Linge Primary School because we had no building of our own. Now the school is known as Oscar Mpetha High School , named after the great Trade Unionist Mr Mpetha of Nyanga East.

Oh ! what can I say about my school ? It is the pride , the star and the jewel of the Nyanga community. Out of this school came great leaders who are now counsellors, religious leaders architects, subject advisors , great artists ,  principals , doctors lawyers and teachers who are teaching at this school now. The list is endless.  The first principal of this great tower was the Mr Prince S. Tukulu , followed by Mr Noel Motlane, then the late Mr Nicol Guwa , then Miss Pamela Mehlomakhulu and now it is under the leadership of Mr D. L. Mawisa – I Bhele ngokwalo .

The school had many challenges but has stood the test of times like a reed. We excelled in sport , especially rugby. We produced great sport and rugby personalities with the help of the Western Province Rugby Board and Bra Nono Mbikoand the late Mr V Mgumane .Our girs rugby team are coaches in our neighbouring schools now.

Oh what a home it is ! do you ever look at it when driving or walking along  Emms Drive ? Do you see the beacon of hope of the Nyanga East community. I call it Nyanga East because I am a product of this very community, a community that is very rich in culture. Many great artists come from my community .  Our matric results prove that the school produces quality learners taught by dedicated, committed , determined, loving , caring and supportive teachers who tirelessly spend most of their time at Oscar than at their homes or house with their families.

We thank the great foot soldiers who made it possible and paved the way for us to have the very first high school in Nyanga East today. They are Mrs L. Gidane,  the late Mr E.N. Mrhubata ,  the late Mr P.Tukulu , Mr G.T Mpulu , Miss N, Biyongo etc .We thank you for the foundation you laid, we salute you. I am proud of my school.
